I wonder if a guy who puts fake badges on his car can end up really believing that his car is what the badge says it is. When buying insurance does he choose “M5" for the model after picking the make? Does he go to the dealer and schedule an appointment “for an M5"?

I had a customer who would swear up and down his Toyota Camry Gallery Edition (LE with white over beige two-tone paint, floormats and a JBL stereo) drove better than an LE. He would call and ask if Toyota was ever going to release another Gallery Edition.
I finally sold him a 50th Anniversary Camry Hybrid in the pearl white. I’m sure he’s bothering other sales people now.

I don’t know who you would get to work on an Italian M5. Being that it’s probably a 535, the twin turbo badge, while out of place isn’t wrong.

I did a total loss claim for a claimant that had a 8-10 year old Corolla shitbox. He was hysterical that I be sure to note that it was a Corolla VE. A VE!! !
Folks, VE means “Value Edition” and it had zero options besides auto. It didn’t even have rear speakers.
I had another claimant that did something more like this picture. He or someone had done a M5 clone. Bumpers, wheels, etc. But the VIN decoded as a 540i. He was also frantic that we acknowledge his lordship driving a M5. He was missing 100hp and about 60 ‘M’ logos sprinkled through the car, but the fact that his estimate sheet said ‘540i’ was just too much to take.

Those speakers balanced the chassis frequency like the lead weights in the front bumper of the old 911

I was also thinking that. No “5" after the “M” so maybe he’s not actually saying it is an M5. It is just a 535 twin turbo with M floor mats. He’s just really proud of those floor mats.

If it was a Mercedes, we could swap it with a chrome badge that reads Bi-Curious and see who long before he notices.

Your claimant might have been sold a 540i for M5 prices. Ignorance can cost money.

It’s the twin turbo badge that’s added on.

I’m afraid you may be right.

If it’s not WBS, I must protest.
